Emotions are a call for action

Sad, scared, angry, or happy, your emotions are a wonderful asset. We are here to help you understand emotions, appreciate them, and see them as a tool you can use to live a more fulfilling life.

Emotion, at its Latin root (emovere) is a call for motion or to take action.
They are a way of telling your body to move. To do something.

Why Emotion Lab?

Psychology suggests that emotions are connected to ancient parts of the brain and exist to help us survive. They help us recognise, and respond, to danger and communicate with, and be a part of, the pack.

Our body plays a big role here. It’s our body that responds to the danger signal by making us run away (very important when you spot a tiger).

Our body also plays an important role in expressing our emotions by manipulating the muscles in the face to communicate body language and facial expressions to the pack. It takes eleven muscles to smile and twelve to frown.

We can all picture what a happy, sad, angry face looks like. We send them every day as emojis.

As our world and social structures have grown increasingly complex our emotions still play a huge role in our survival and communication with the pack. It’s just gotten a bit more complicated. (So many emojis.)

Sometimes we forget the big role our body plays in responding to and expressing our emotions. To this day movement is an essential component to shift from one state to another.

That is why at Emotion lab we believe in cultivating the relationship between our emotions and our actions.

We see our emotions as an engine for our actions and our actions as an engine for our emotions.
